The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) awarded industry pioneer, Sam Villa, with the North American Hairdressers Awards (NAHA) 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award. The co-founder of Sam Villa and Redken Global Artistic Ambassador was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the hair industry. His award was presented by Eden Sassoon and Sam Villa Hairshow President Kurt Garehime.
With more than 40 years experience as a trendsetting stylist, groundbreaking educator, mentor, and trailblazer, Sam quickly captured the hearts of his peers, sharing his love of the art and dedication to the profession, making an unforgettable mark on the industry. The lifetime achievement award recognizes significant achievements in technical skill, industry innovation and leadership. It is bestowed upon professional hairdressers who uphold the highest standard of the industry and whose efforts continue to shape the future of the profession.
During Villa’s acceptance speech the heart behind the man became crystal clear. With his voice cracking as he expressed his gratitude to his family, industry peers and mentors, the emotion and passion was palpable: “See my friends, my family always understood that all I have ever wanted is to be is a teacher!”
“To be recognized for a lifetime of work is truly humbling.”
In addition to heart Sam shared his purpose; to bring value with a lifetime commitment to elevate the professional standard within the industry, and support one another as artists. He shared a powerful message with the industry: “Education is the heart that will elevate this industry as a whole…I do not stand before you as a rock star, nor as a genius, nor as an inventor, or as a visionary. You see my friends I stand before you as a hairdresser who is proud to be a teacher, who chooses to grow hairdressers by adding educational value to the industry.” Sam concluded his speech by calling all industry professionals to use their VOICES to work together, inspire imagination and instill a passion for learning!
