The BC provincial health order has been cancelled, effective Tuesday May 19, to allow salons and independent service providers to open safely under WorkSafe BC protocols, BC Health Guidelines and BC Gov’t Core Guidelines. WorkSafeBC has developed protocols that the B.C. beauty industry must follow and the BC Government has provided a management strategy outline to help employers map out the implementation of these measures, in their specific work environments.

Although many of these guidelines speak to salons owners with employees it is recommended that home based salons/service providers follow all the guidelines that aim to reduce risk and publicly announce your plan to your guests through posted signs and your social media/digital channels. Remember even as a home based service provider you are still in business and must follow your local health authority (eg: Fraser Health, Interior Health Authority etc..), BC Provincial Health, and BC Gov’t Core Measures for safe opening.
On May 6, 2020 the Premier announced a plan to restart BC safely, where he stated:”Sectors that were ordered closed will be asked to work with WorkSafeBC to develop plans to reopen safely. WorkSafeBC is developing industry-specific guidance to help employers bring workers and customers back safely.”
**We have listed the basics and necessary tools you will need to develop a plan and implement the protocols put in place for a safe reopening of your salon/home/mobile service space for yourself, your team, and your clients.
